History

PROMARINHA was founded in 1969 and the objective of the company was to provide services related directly or indirectly to the Merchant Marine Industry namely:

 

  • Economic and operational studies for the acquisitions and specifications of vessels.

  • New building project consulting

  • Survey and inspection services of vessels and cargo.

  • Repairs in vessels as well as a follow up on the work.

  • Technical maintenance of vessels

  • Crew recruitment and management of maritime personnel

 

Soon after 1984, its activity was focused in the recruitment and management of marine personnel for national and international clients. It was in that period that we started our crewing operations with St. Thomas, Angola and Mozambique companies in general cargo vessels, also in the containers of a Portuguese owner, STENA ferries, cruise vessels "RENAISSANCE", and MAERSK, LOWLINE and O.I.L. platform supply vessels operating in the North Sea, West Africa and Brazil.

In the 90's Promarinha's core business was to source and manage marine crews to Platform Supply Vessels namely to clients based out in the U.K.

 

After 2000 and subsequent years  initiates a collaboration with one of the most important recruitment companies being the only Portuguese company involved with the recruitment of offshore Drilling and Maintenance crews to onshore and offshore installations operating in Europe and West Africa. Organizes successful recruitment campaigns of Portuguese greenhands and experienced crew. 

In 2005 Promarinha establishes a partnership with a major Scottish player and expands its activity to the hotel services crew mainly to Ferries operating in the North Sea.

In 2006 acts as manning office for a stand by vessels shipowner widening its Operations within the offshore support vessels market  in the oil & gas industry. Adds a major Canadian company with Operations in the north Sea,  Far East  and Brazil to its client list.

In 2008 establishes a long term co-operation for the provision of marine crews to Norwegian merchant marine vessels with a Norwegian partner.

In 2010 enhanced its number of seafarers working in most types of offshore support vessels to record numbers including PSV, AHTSV, SBV, Multi-Purpose Offshore Support Vessels, Survey,Dive Support , Chaser Vessels, Crane Subsea Support Vessels e Field and Subsea Support Vessels.

2011 is marked in the company’s history with its first recruitment campaign of well services personnel to Europe and West Africa operations for a major oil services company in a partnership with one of its clients.

 

In 2013 Promarinha is accepted as a full member of the Portuguese Shipowners Association.

In October 2013 achieves ISO9001:2008 certification of its management system.

In November 2013 Promarinha is the first company in Portugal to have achieved the MLC 2006 compliance certificate issued by DNV applicable for crew manning offices.

In November 2013 achieves the award  of exports and internacionalization organized by the BES / Jornal de Negócios in the category Small and Mid Sized Services company.

In June 2014 was officially recognized by the IAPMEI (Portuguese state bureau of support to small and mid sized companies) PME Líder award based on the its quality and risk profile.

In December  2014, Promarinha is awarded the tender for the supply of fisheries observers working on Portuguese industrial fishing vessels  operating in NAFO waters, (www.nafo.org)

In July and August of 2015 recruited and managed observers working in  the regulated fishing areas NEAFC and WCPFC reinforcing its collaboration with Portuguese Institute IPMA as well as with Spanish ship owners.

 

The year 2016 brought a major change to the company. After more than 47 successful years in Rua Castilho, Lisbon, Promarinha moved to Praça Europa, n.º 2, 1249-289 Lisboa (Old Watch palace, Cais do Sodré district). In September 2016 joined as member of EISAP – European International Shipownwers Association of Portugal that represents more than 500 merchant marine vessels that fly the Madeira flag (MAR).

 

In 2017 witnessed the consolidation of our fisheries observers Operation with the recruitment of Spanish and Portuguese candidates  that worked in international waters in over 4 continents.

Promarinha registered in 2017 the beguining of a cooperation with a recent Portuguese shipowner that operates general cargo and bulk carriers working in Europe and Africa in the short sea market .

An important landmark was also the beginning of a  very interesting project of investment in the economy of the sea with the award of the recruitment and management of the crew of classic Portuguese tall  ship “ Santa Maria Manuela”.

In 2018, a year of consolidation of its leading position in the market, Promarinha proudly became the crew manager for a national flag Dredger.

The year 2019 is highlighted in its history with the celebration of the 50th anniversary. Several initiatives took place, from which we highlight the celebration event that took place in Nautical Club of Cascais, where both employees, shareholders and clients who have contributed over the years to the success of the company were honoured.

In March 2020 and in subsequent years, successfully organized training seminars aimed at Fisheries Observers, which were attended by the President of ENIDH, representatives of IPMA and DGRM and also guests representing the Spanish maritime authority and Spanish shipowners, as part of the recruitment and management program of these professionals.

 

The name of the company was simply changed to PROMARINHA and its articles of association were updated to better correspond to its activity as a private recruitment and placement agency
